International Education Week IEW

Celebrating Education week: Improving lives through Education

The United nation’s Millennium Development Goal (MDG) for education set the objective to be achieved in education internationally by 2015- education for all. Under Articles 43 through 47 of its Constitution, Afghanistan is committed to provide quality education for all regardless of gender, ethnicity, language, religion, age, physical ability and geographical location.

And, as a signatory to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Afghan government is committed to the promotion and protection of it’s children’ right to education. The assurance of this right will be guaranteed only if education is available, accessible and adaptable.

Since the fall of the Taliban in 2001, great strides have been made toward reconstructing education infrastructure in Afghanistan and insuring that all children have excess to education.
More then six million children have enrolled in primary school in the last five years-a remarkable achievement, particularly for a country devastated by almost three decades years of conflict.

While much has been accomplished in this short period, a great deal of work remains. Government statistics show that Afghan children are enrolling in the first grade in great numbers, however, these statistics show that students are dropping out of school as well. Thus the challenge is not only get children into school, but to keep them enrolled. In 1384 (2005), the Ministry of Education estimates that almost 4,895,000 school-age children and adolescents were enrolled in school; in 1386 (2007), this figure reached 6 million. Consistently girls made up an average of one-third of students in grades 1-12. However, figures also reveal that those who enroll do not necessarily remain to continue their education. Nationally, the number of fourth grades enrolled in school in 2005 was 988,928; of these, 323,212 were girls.
However, just two years later this same group of students numbered only 648,359- a 28% decline.
These figures are of serious concern.
Why are children dropping out of school?
Are they forced to abandon their studies due to security issues?
Are they unsatisfied with the quality of education they are receiving?
Are an adequate number of teachers, school facilities and supplies available to all, including disabled students?

At this forum we would like to hear your concerns (children, parents, and teachers) and to help you to share your ideas and your information with those shaping the education system in Afghanistan: the Afghan government, international donors, local and international NGO’s and all interested parties.

You can find more info related to this subject in different researches, articles, briefing papers and interviews, some of them below: “Parents and Children Speak out. Is government provided basic education fulfilling children’s rights?”, HRRAC, October 2007; “looking Beyond the School Walls: Household Decision-Making and School Enrolment in Afghanistan”. AREU briefing paper, March 2006; and etc.

Below are some comments of girls and boys, their parents from different parts of Afghanistan:

“As we all know that security plays a basic role in education- if there is no security it means there is no education.” Male student in the 12 grade
“The discrimination between girls and boys should be banned. Most families give less importance to girls in favor of boys- this culture should be eradicated.” A girl from Heart city
“ My suggestion is that the teacher shuld come on time and teach the lessons.’ Girl from Kadahar Province
“What does it say that at the center of Kabul city, most students in tents and sit on the soil?” A man from Kabul city
“I started weaving rugs when I was ten. When we first came to Kabul from Iran we had terrible life. Farther said to weave rugs and I did, but now I’m so tired of this work. I weave from 6am until 5pm…I’m not going to school because I’, busy every day in weaving rugs. I’d really like to go, but my farther doesn’t let me…” 14-years-old girl, Kabul City

“…I wish my children to have a comfortable life in the future. And when people mention my name and say that my children are literate, it will make me very happy.” Mother, rural Belcharagh

The aim of higher education
The sixties and more than even the age of further education we need to train youth for the technological ways of life and understanding of its impact on the humanities. This types of education a part from providing immense opportunities. Also poses challenges for the future the object of education, in general is to enable the individuals to be fuller and society must be richer
Education must be constant adoptable to new condition need and discoveries. It must provide for all.
While planning for higher education we should if found necessary sidestep the burden of customs .and free our outlook from shackles of the traditionalism so as our university to needs of today and to marrow. This must be a continuous process from earliest child to maturity.

this is my idea bout the education problem in Afghanistan

Abstract.
Evaluation of mine risk education in Afghanistan used population weighted raster maps as an evaluation tool to assess mine education performance, coverage and costs. A stratified last-stage random cluster sample produced representative data on mine risk and exposure to education. Clusters were weighted by the population they represented, rather than the land area. A "friction surface" hooked the population weight into interpolation of cluster-specific indicators. The resulting population weighted raster contours offer a model of the population effects of landmine risks and risk education

In fact, the number of schools put out of commission is even higher. Listing schools that were closed in 2005, provincial and district education officials told us of at least forty-nine in Kandahar,98 fourteen in Ghazni,99 and eighty-six in Zabul.100 In January 2006, the director of education for Helmand province told journalists that 165 schools had been closed for security reasons.101 According to Nader Nadery, of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission, “more than three hundred schools have been burned or, for the major part, have been shut down. . . . Most of the schools have been closed because of the fear of attacks by Taliban and Al-Qaeda forces, and, due to the insecurity that the people in the region [feel], parents are refusing to send their kids to schools.”102

Then there is the difficulty of compatibility of data sets. Data come in different formats and they refer to different domains, at different times. In the Afghanistan case, a mine survey mapped the physical location of the mine fields. Existing services were catalogued and mapped, and these data can be related to where the population is thought to live. But in Afghanistan the last census was done several decades ago. Even the 1990 "update" was altered drastically by several new phases of the war. Unrelated sample surveys with varying objectives provide data from some places but not from others. This information asymmetry is typical of situations where maps are needed most. Even outside of emergency situations, data on environmental risks, population distribution and services are rarely coterminous

freshat bahar student of Taluqan ILC this is my idea bout the problem of education in my country as all u know that to day is the day of international education from that point we hope that united nation sould pay more attention for providing the ways for getting and learnig educaion in afghanistan as all u know 28 years of panic and remormongring destyed all of school, collleges& universities they must rebuild by the helpe of thos countries that are resoponcible for bringing peacea and stability in afghanistan
Land mines are an intrinsically spatial issue – land mines alter geographic access – and integration of epidemiological risk analysis with GIS should offer substantial benefits for planning and evaluation of mine action. The harsh conditions of Afghanistan offered an opportunity to test the added value of GIS in epidemiological evaluation[3]. Even in the mid-1990s, Afghanistan was not without existing data. Because of the strategic importance of the country and its particular history in the last years of the Cold War, its geography was unusually well documented. For years, US spy satellites followed movement of people, documenting every contour and cave. When the USA pulled out of the region, they made available huge banks of data accessible to the humanitarian organisations working in Afghanistan.

The fact that an action is planned and paid for does not mean it is implemented. The fact that a service is offered does not mean people make use of it. And, if they do take up services that are offered, it does not mean these services have the desired effect. Like almost any public sector intervention, mine risk education does not work equally well everywhere and, in some places, it does not work at all. This is the issue at the heart of evidence-based planning: what actually happens is what counts, not only what is intended to happen.

Education in Afghanistan was significantly improved under the rule of King Zahir Shah (from 1933 to 1973), making primary schools available to about half the population who were younger than 12 years of age, and expanding the secondary school system and the national university at Kabul. Despite those improvements, large percent of the population remained illiterate. Beginning with the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, successive wars virtually destroyed the education system. Most teachers fled the country during the wars. By the middle of the 1990s, only about 650 schools were functioning

Important of Education:
Education is the way of Humanization, the way which is light,Brotherhood , the way all humen know about the Rights of each other it is academics, technical, discipline, and citizenship or is it something more Our society says only academic basics are important and that is based on collecting knowledge without understanding its value. How about the processing of knowledge, using inspiration, visionary ambitions, creativity, risk, ability to bounce back from failure, motivation? Most education institutions don’t consider these skills. These skills are associated with understanding the value of knowledge. There is a huge disconnected gap and this is a problem for high school students in particular.

Why education is important
Because if in some where there is not education the people of that place will be in darkness and they don’t know about their rights and also they don’t know about improvement of their country so we can say education is instruction for all male and female and education shows us the way of prosperity.
For example: if some one that don’t have education in every place he will be in dark and know one will take care of him/her if he or she has education in every place he/she will appreciate and have good manner and knowledge.
We can say Education is the need of Prosperity

there are two reasons:

As we all know that if in Afghanistan especially youths are not educated people it doesn’t mean that they are weak or this their mistakes but actually our parents are the responsible people for our education why? Because the responsible people of education systems are our parents if once they think about their children education never they we neglect in bringing facilities in education also we can see in our friends and relatives that if some one wants his children to educate they will never submit themselves to life problems to have bad effect in their children education. Lets message to all people to care more in education system of people .

Two parallel educational systems function in Afghanistan. Traditional Islamic madrassa found in towns and villages teach children basic moral values and ritual knowledge through the study of the Holy Koran, the Hadith (Sayings of the Prophet Mohammad), and popular edited religious texts. Higher level madrassa located in Herat, Kunduz, Ghazni, Kandahar and Kabul were known as important learning centers. Leading religious leaders also attended famous madrassa in India such as the renowned establishment located at Deoband.

Every guys and ladies know extensively that education is a light and overcome for every human male/female but unfortunately this light and overcome is so dame or weak in the Afghanistan. It means education system is in the lower position currently in the Afghanistan, because of many things like fights, economical state, security and some thing else. So for best getting education we need some professional teachers, secure security, and special places for studding so if we have these facilities in our country every guy and ladies will be educated. If these facilities don’t be in our country so every one will be uneducated

My suggestion is that from high officials to make education system better by these things.
At the first step they have to best train the teacher then they have to send them in school, university and madras’s,
At the second step they have to increase the salary of teachers.
At the third step they have to make schools and university.
At the fourth step they have to it mean teachers have to come on time to the class and leave on time
I think these techniques or rules more affects by education system in Afghanistan

her case finally she got her devorse and separated her from her husband and her son. she got married with him who was a judge in talaban rejuem and went to quandar. the man was alone with his son and went to his old one family house. when he knocked the door, his older daughter opened the door and called her mother. when his first wife came. she told her older daughter that we dont have husbend and father. then they closed the door for him for ever.then he went to his relation house and knew his faluse. from that day he with his two years old son are living in his relative houses and wants from ALLAH his death. this story is a good lesson for who doesnt want his kher and he is just interested to have son. but every one should know that there is no different between son and daughter. just want to have a polite and good child and nothing else.

Education is the greatest thing in the world. I think every one should have education if someone doesn’t have education she/he should seek it. If a man has education if he wouldn’t find work, work will find him. Education will seek us how to talk, how to live, how to behave with people's and many more things. Education is just like a ship which find it's destination by it self.
In Afghanistan education is so important for every one if we don’t have education in Afghanistan our country will be destroyed.
Education brings us out from dark to light. Education is just like an important piece of our body. By education we learn every thing in the world. Education is an available gift of god. At last i congratulate education's week to the entire world.

FROM KABUL TTC ILC SHOGOFA AND SALMA FROM SOFIE ISLAM HIGH SCHOOL.
First of all i congratulate the week of education to all the world.
Education
Education means knowledge and knowledge is very important in our life.Education is something for which we have to suffer lots of probiems but atlast we will be free from all problems and we will be able to solve all of our problems in the world and society. It's not something that we can buy it ,or take it from someone. It's a thing that we have to study and learn it.
Today in all over the world education is having a very important point. That every person must be educated and we all must try to find uneducated people and try to educate them through admitting them in different institudes and classes.
Education is something which dose'nt finishes, which have no end.Education is just like a diamond when ever we take it out from any place it shines. It is a thing which never lost.It cannot be theft by a person. It is a thing which have taken place in our mind,in our brain, and it can't be lost untill we die or our brain becomes damage.
at last i want to say that a person without education is just like a glass without water,a ship with out destenation.

I Congratulate Educations Week to each and every person of the World,

EDUCATION

Education means knowledge and knowledge is a very important thing in all over the world which is having a very important value in every point of the world. Education is something for which we have to suffer lots of problems but instead we will take it's benefit. Each and every person of the world must try to educate them self by working hard. Today in all over the world people educate because they wants a shining future so we also must try to educate our selves by working hard.. We all educate because we want to be well educated to solve our problems and help other people in the society. Education is not something which gets old, it is not something which finishes, it is something which has no end. Education is just like a light that can show our brightness future.addition in knowledge is better than addition to pray or worship. And at last I want to advice as a small sister’s to every person of the world that all of us must try to find uneducated people and admit them in well institutes and courses to become a well educated person.

Hello to all staff of international relief organization.
First of all we congratualate the world wide day of education to all.
firstly i would like to write a few words about education and it is gathering and arrangment of scientific perfermanees and feedbacks transmited to an individual or public by trained or experienced masters .
or simply it is the communication and conveying of information to the recievers .
Education is as a candle in society which directs human toward the light .
If a society is lack of knowledge it is idenfied as a home without light.
As our prophet Mohamad (pbuh) said , "If you are willing to have both lives ,thus you have to be educated .Beside this he has sais learn even if it is in china" .
Shortly some advantages of education:
- Possessing good life
- Possessing both worlds
- Resulting to welfare of mankind
- Preparation of human to social acivities
- Becoming self-sufficiant
TO enourage those who are envolved in education (students ,teachers and afficials )we hold an international education day and this day is cellebrated throutgh out the world .Farhad and Salih
